Shorty's Urban Market Celebrates Grand Opening

Shorty's Urban Market celebrated its grand opening this past weekend at 163 West Short Street. The independently owned downtown grocery store carries meat, produce and sundries.

Triangle Foundation Reveals Plan for Redesigned Triangle Park

The Triangle Foundation released the plans for the new design of downtown Lexington's Triangle Park.

EOP Architects and landscape architecture firm M2D Design Group are working with the Triangle Foundation on the redesign of the park. Improvements will feature a central lawn, outdoor café, activity areas for chess and ping pong and a seasonal ice-skating rink.

Grocery Store to Open in Downtown Lexington

EOP is working with Darren Teodoro and an investor group on the design of a new independently owned grocery store in downtown Lexington. The new store--Shorty's, The Urban Market--will be located at 163 West Short Street in the Traditional Bank Building. The market will carry meat, produce, and sundries and is intended to serve the downtown community.

Design elements will include brick walls and antique wood floors as well as a large vault door, left from the space's previous use as a bank, that will serve as a major focal point.

UK College of Pharmacy Receives AIA Honor Award

The University of Kentucky College of Pharmacy Biological Pharmaceutical Complex has received an AIA Kentucky Honor Award.

The Honor Awards program of AIA Kentucky, the Kentucky Society of Architects, seeks to honor and bring to public attention distinctive works of architecture created by Kentucky architects. For over 46 years, the program has been dedicated to recognizing and applauding works of architecture exhibiting design excellence, and promoting public awareness and appreciation of the diversity, quality and scope of Kentucky Architecture.

The Kentucky Society's Honor Award is the highest professional honor bestowed upon a Kentucky architect by his or her peers, and it distinguishes the architect as one who is dedicated to making architecture the best it can be.

Southland Christian Church Reveals Design of New Campus

Southland Christian Church released architectural renderings of its plans for the old Lexington Mall on Richmond Road. EOP has been working with Southland on the design that will transform the vacant property into an additional campus for the church. The plans include the renovation of the old Dillard's store into educational space. Adjacent to this, a 49,000 sf 2,800-seat worship center will be added.

LexTran & Art in Motion Dedicate Bluegrass Art Shelter

LexTran officials were joined this morning by 5^th District Councilwoman Cheryl Feigel, Art in Motion President Yvette Hurt, and members of the Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization as they revealed Lexington’s third artistic bus shelter. Designed by EOP Architects, the “Bluegrass” shelter is an artistic sculpture in itself and a tribute to Lexington’s rolling countryside.

“When I first came to LexTran, I made a commitment to adding more amenities, like benches and bus shelters,” said Rocky Burke, General Manager of LexTran. “When we can do something like this with the Bluegrass shelter, it provides shelter to our passengers and adds public art for the entire community.”

Burke also expressed his gratitude to all organizations and individuals who made the Bluegrass shelter possible, including Fifth District Councilwoman Cheryl Feigel. Feigel is the Chair of the Urban County Council Corridors Commission, a major contributor to the project. Funding for the art shelter was provided by the Urban County Council Corridors Commission and LexTran, with donations of time and services provided by EOP Architects, Steve Hranicky Construction, Iron Horse Forge, Yvette Hurt and Art in Motion.

“Our mission on Corridors is to improve the aesthetics of our corridors. I believe this certainly satisfies that goal and more, because it makes one of our corridors more functional,” added Cheryl Feigel, Fifth District Councilwoman, Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council. The Bluegrass shelter is located at the corner of Newtown Pike and Ash Street (across from Lexington-Fayette County Health Department).
