EOP Architects Named Winner of Innovative Architecture and Design Award

EOP Architects is the recipient of a 2009 Innovative Architecture and Design Award for their work on Urban Active Fitness - Taylorsville Road in Louisville, Kentucky. The award is one of only ten given annually to recognize innovative designs within the field of sports and recreation facilities. EOP Architects was the only architecture firm in the state of Kentucky to receive a 2009 award. The awards competition, sponsored by Recreation Management, is in its seventh year.

Urban Active – Taylorsville Road is a 67,364 square foot adaptive reuse project honored for its dynamic transformation from a vacant grocery store to a cutting edge fitness club. Centered on the concept of movement, this facility motivates its members to pursue lifestyles of health and fitness. “It is all about transparency and energy. A common theme that we have incorporated in all of the UA Fitness Centers has been to allow that energy not only to be shared internally but externally as well,” said Rick Ekhoff, design principal with EOP Architects. The judges of the competition particularly noted the merits of the bold architectural forms and the dramatic exterior transformation of this project.
